In and Around Sundarban

Sajnekhali Watch Tower

Within the premises, you’ll find a temple dedicated to Bono Bibi alongside a park inhabited by crocodiles. A freshwater pond draws animals to drink, while a watchtower with clear observation lines offers sweeping views of the forest below. The area is also a delight for bird-watchers, with a variety of avian species frequently spotted, along with common sightings of deer and water monitor lizards.

Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower

The Sudhanyakhali Canal leads to the Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower, one of the area’s key attractions for visitors. Overlooking a freshwater pond created by the forest department, the watchtower offers a clear vantage point to observe wildlife and take in the surrounding natural scenery.

Dobanki Watch Tower

The main highlights include an accessible lookout tower and a canopy walk through the forest. From here, visitors can observe local wildlife from a safe distance thanks to the clear viewing lines. A freshwater pond in the area attracts a variety of animals, so tigers are not the only species frequently spotted. To reach this lookout tower, visitors must sail through Matla to the Sea Face, a viewpoint of the Bay of Bengal and a five-river confluence surrounded by a vast water body.

Netidhopani Watch Tower

The Netidhopani Watch Tower, situated to the left of the main camp’s entrance, overlooks the ruins of a 400-year-old Shiva temple. Set within the national park, it is surrounded by lush trees and tranquil scenery, offering a peaceful vantage point to take in the natural beauty.

Hamilton's Bungalow/Beacon's Bungalow

In Gosaba, you can visit the cottage of Sir Daniel Mackinnon Hamilton, where he established one of the region’s most influential cooperative organisations. The nearby Beacon House was once occupied by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, who visited at Sir Hamilton’s invitation. These landmarks together highlight the rich historical significance of the area.

On my second visit, travelling with a group of 24 elderly guests, the experience was just as wonderful as before. The rooms, food and overall property were excellent, but what truly stood out was the staff’s exceptional care. From smooth luggage handling at arrival to constant support throughout our stay, the service was thoughtful and reassuring.
